Our Curriculum Intent here at Mill Mead

Our curriculum is based on a secure understanding of our children’s context and the shared aspiration of all stakeholders for each child, including those with special educational needs or disabilities, within our care to achieve their potential in their lives ahead. We believe that, alongside instilling our values and providing coverage of the National Curriculum, our curriculum prepares children to be lifelong learners. One way in which we achieve this by allowing them to develop and deepen their understanding of the world around them through the exploration of the following themes wherever relevant opportunities occur:

  • Social Justice – We ensure all children leave our school with a firm belief that they can directly impact upon inequalities and discrimination within our society. We are passionate about making sure they have the skills and knowledge to challenge such social injustice and feel empowered to do so.
  • Equity – We instil an understanding and belief in all children that we should fight to do whatever is necessary to provide everyone with the same opportunities – even when this could mean treating people differently to ultimately achieve fairness in our society.
  • Resilience and risk-taking – We encourage all children to see the value in pushing themselves beyond their comfort zone by exposing them to learning opportunities which prove this to be the case, so they are prepared to face any challenges or adverse situations in their lives ahead with courage and the determination to succeed.
