How do we get day and night?
A practical demonstration, using visual aids, to show how the Sun shines on the Earth and how the Earth rotates to create day and night. The demonstrator talks about the Sun rising in the east and setting in the west, and the effect on the length of shadows created at different times of the day.
Where does light and shade come from?
An explanation of where light comes from and how shadows are created. Light is produced from light sources such as a lamp, a candle or the Sun. Light travels away from a light source until it meets an object. When something blocks light travelling from a source, a shadow is made.
Shadow puppeteer Manju Gregory shows how to create a shadow puppet show. She shows how light travels away from a light source until it meets an object. When something blocks light travelling from a source, a shadow is made. We also see how light travels through translucent materials when the puppeteer creates puppets using coloured gels.
