Year 3

Welcome to 3 Jupiter

Welcome to the spring term. We hope that your child is looking forward to another term of great learning.

In English, we have kicked off the term with a unit on fairy tale and traditional tales. The children will be writing their own stories, but ones with a twist. Imagine the story of Little Red Riding Hood retold from the wolf’s point of view or the Princess and the Pea from the pea’s point of view. The opportunities are limitless! In guided reading, we will study the wonderful Philip Pullman novel ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’, which in a way can be seen as a modern fairy tale. Our next unit will focus on play scripts and this will include opportunities for drama and role play.

During our Maths sessions, we will be focusing on multiplication and division. We will be approaching division in two different ways - through equal grouping and the size of groups.

There will be a real drive on learning the 4, 8 and 3 x tables so please support your child with these at home and remember to revisit the 2, 5 and 10 x tables.

Please see the Maths guidance document on this page for further details.

In Science, we will be investigating forces through our IPC topic ‘Feel the Force’ and will explore magnetism as well as planning and carrying out fair tests about friction. A topic letter can be found on this page which gives details of our Pirate Day on Monday 22nd  January. Hopefully, the children will find this an exciting entry point to our topic on forces.

If you have any queries or questions please do not hesitate to catch me briefly after school, or make an appointment via the office.

Do keep checking back for updates, and follow us on Twitter if you aren't yet doing so - this will give you an excellent insight to all of the learning that 3 Jupiter and the rest of the school get up to.

Really looking forward to another exciting term!

Kind regards
