Welcome to the spring term. We hope that your child is looking forward to another term of great learning.
In English, we will be starting with a unit on fairy tales and traditional tales. The children will be writing their own stories, but ones with a twist. Imagine the story of Little Red Riding Hood retold from the wolf’s point of view or Jack and the Beanstalk from the giant’s or beanstalk’s perspective. The opportunities are limitless! In guided reading, we will study the fabulous Philip Pullman novel ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’, which in some ways can be seen as a modern fairy tale with an impulsive and independent female character. The unit after this will focus on non-chronological reports.
During our Maths lessons, we will be focusing on addition and subtraction, using the inverse operation to find missing numbers before moving on to more formal written methods. We will also be learning about statistics including constructing and interpreting bar charts. There will be a real drive on learning the 4, 8 and 3 x tables and the related division facts so please support your child with these at home and remember to revisit the 2, 5 and 10 x tables. We have just started using the app Rock Stars which focuses on the times tables and their related division facts. As soon as we have launched this fully asa school the children will be able to access it at home as well.
In Science, we will continue with our topic on 'Animals- including Humans', before investigating forces through the topic ‘Feel the Force’. We will explore magnetism as well as planning and carrying out fair tests about friction. As an entry point to this topic we will explore forces in a practical and imaginative way through a Pirate Day on Wednesday 30th January. To add to the excitement of the day, we will all dress up as pirates.
Do keep checking back for updates, and follow us on Twitter if you aren't yet doing so - this will give you an excellent insight to all of the learning that 3 Jupiter and the rest of the school get up to.
Really looking forward to another exciting term!
